It’s certainly been a while since I’ve been this smitten with a diecast.

Yes, I did a photoshoot on my child’s playmat. You’re just jealous that you didn’t think of it.

This is part of Hot Wheels’ air-cooled line, featuring the ‘real riders’ rubber wheels and available at Targay (and maybe other places, I honestly have no idea) for $3.49. I feel like this one was worth it. Especially since I had a gift card. The other models on the pegs there were the Porsche 356 ‘Outlaw’, and of course a few Volkswagens; an SP2, hot rod Beetle, and a squareback. All of which can be found as a $1 mainline without too much trouble.

Despite some obvious inspiration from an Abarth tuned 500, the casting is titled “60's Fiat 500D Modificado”.

I kind of want to crack it open just to get a better look at some of the interior details.

I busted one open, too. 2 months in and I already have a contender for my favorite casting of 2017. I just wish there wasn’t a giant pillar inside for the rivet.

Yeah that pillar really is a bummer. It puts a small damper on an otherwise great casting, just like the Morris Mini.

This, the 356A, and the SP2 are my favorite. In general, we’ve seen a few really cool models from the Car Culture line(Air-Cooled is the most recent wave). RX-3, Golf MK7, 964, this Fiat, and later this year, Porsche 962, and, Mercedes-Benz 190E. It’s also had great versions of existing castings as well.

It’ll be out later in the year. Probably late summer or fall. There is also an M1 Procar coming but I don’t remember if it’s the Car Culture line.

The 356 and Abarth are the two best castings in this set, in my opinion. The 356 looks really good in the dark blue. I only wish the Abarth had solid white paint and not a pearl.

IT’S SO CUTE!!

I found one yesterday. The plan is to break it open tonight to see what is inside, and to give it some detailing so that the headlights are nicely defined.

Isn’t it awesome?! I found 2, one to open and one to keep in packet, which I never do. It’s so much fun to handle and play with and look at and I LOVE that pearlescent paint!
